Spain Weekly: A Day in my Life and Malaga's Man Made Nature Preserve

A Day in my Life and Malaga's Man Made Nature Preserve

Hello Everyone and welcome to this weeks Spanish Weekly. This week has been jammed pack and while the weather in Malaga, Spain has been less than sunny, my spirits are higher then ever. First I wanted to thank you to everyone who is watching my videos and leaving comments. I try to answer all of them and your viewership means a lot!

Second, I know that many of you are interested in how I moved to Spain, I have been having a think on this and I plan to address this question in future content on the channel!

A Realistic Day in the Life of an Expat in Spain

video preview

This week I shared with you all what a day in my life loos like as an expat who lives and works in Spain. Everything often thinks that being a digital nomad is all sunshine, beaches, and easy days of doing whatever you like, but the reality is a little different. This video actually took me multiple tries to record as I found myself overthinking what I should show or how to stitch together interesting footage. It finally clicked.

What I wanted to show wasn't a manufactured day, or just the right moments, but actually what my day looks like, the really deal from start to finish. And again, the reality isn't always the most exciting content, but instead a real work day dealing with Spanish Bureaucracy, Spanish lessons, and spending time with friends. And of course cats.

I am considering doing more of these showing other day in the life videos and if that is something you are interested in let me know in my video comments, or via email at hello@evanthewayfarer.com

Marisma De Guadalhorce

This week I visited the Nature park/reserve of the Marisma de Guadalhorce. Interesting this was originally intended to be a nature reserve, but rather was designated as an area to dredge sand for use in construction in 1977. It wasn't until 1989 when it was classified as a nature reserve and pathways and other species were considered protected in this are.

This efforts continued started in 1989 when the city of Malaga poured resources into the development and preservation of both plant and animal species a like. Much of this work resulted in what we see today, natural vegetation both in and along the river embankment along with the extraction pits largely hidden from the public. What is also interested is that this area is home to many species of birds and a frequent area for many bird watchers alike.

This park offers many walking trails, many that lead down the beach and is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. There are many bike trails so you can easily rent a bike and ride around enjoying a sunny afternoon. One underrated component of the preserve is that it offers stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Above you will see an image of the Sierra Almijara juxtaposed by modern construction of apartment. Progress never slows!

I cannot wait to go spend another day out in this park may even shoot a video, stay tuned!

Sabor en España

This week I got to try some delicious sea food in a chiringuito, I won't say where as I was actually there filming a new video, planned to release next week! But the food was classic spanish meal the sword fish was rich in flavor and only had light seasoning which allowed you to connect with the flavor the sea. The potatoes were really good, and actually may have been my favorite part of the meal. Suffice to say I left the meal satisfied and very happy.

Chiringuitos are a great place to stop and get fresh seafood that is grilled over an open fire, it is a classic Coastal experience and one not to miss. These are usually open during the afternoon and can get very busy on the weekend. This one was right on the beach, filled with people, so I had to stop in.

Wrap-up

Thanks going to do it for this Spanish Weekly, thanks again to everyone who is reading these and to those watching the videos. The viewership means a lot and I am looking to continue creating videos as I share my journey, experiences, and stories through Malaga, Andalucia, and Spain. Until next week!

Life in Spain: Jumping into Summer at Midnight Hello and welcome back to Life in Spain. Thank you for being here, and if you're new, welcome aboard. You can always go back through past issues to catch up on life over here. Before I get into it, a quick note. There's no video this week, and I owe you an apology for the quiet stretch, because I've been sick for the past few days and it slowed everything down. The good news is that I have one in the oven that I'm genuinely excited about, and I...

Málaga is back in the big leagues Hello and welcome back to Life in Spain. Thank you for being here, and if you’re new, welcome aboard. You can always go back through past issues to catch up on life here. Behind the video: what they don’t tell you I want to point you back to a video that means a lot to me, the one about what people don’t tell you when they move abroad. This was a deeply personal one. The point wasn’t to attack Spanish bureaucracy, or to say the language is too hard, or that...

Hello and welcome back to Life in Spain. Thank you for being here, and if you're new, welcome aboard. You can always go back through past issues to catch up on life here in Spain. The Quiet Places of Spain This week's video means more to me than most. It's a return to why I started making travel videos in the first place. If you go back to one of my very first ones, the day I hopped on a train along the coast and rode it down to Fuengirola, that trip was simple. I got on, I went, and I saw...
