Life in Spain: A Statue on a Hill and a Country Holding its Breath

Life in Spain: A Statue on a Hill and a Country Holding its Breath

Hello and welcome back to another edition of my life in Spain. Thanks to everyone who has been reading and following along my journey's and life in Spain. Let's dive straight in!

Trip to Pizarra, Spain

video preview

This week I wanted to dive into a behind the scenes on my video to Pizarra, Spain. This is a small town located on the C2 line about 25 minutes outside of Malaga Centro. I decided to go there for a few reasons, first, there was a great view of the surrounding mountain region with an interesting statue at the top. As I started to research the sacred heart statue I quickly learned that it has quite the long and fascinating history, this became my my main motivator, the hike was just a bonus.

The second reason was the history behind the town itself. Living in this region of Spain you learn that many of the towns, cities, and even villages have a much older history then anything I am used to in my country. Pizarra is no exception, being founded in the 15th century, but having history stretching all the way back to the Bronze Age, speaking of....

The part where I visited the bronze age tombs on the hill side. I cut it for a few reasons. First, while it was cool to explore them, they really weren't much to look at beyond some fenced off holes in the ground, which didn't make for the most exciting content. Second, the video was already starting to get long and the first rule in editing is cut, cut, and cut again. But still, it was incredible to learn that this town had history stretching all the way from that period of history.

This video marked the first in my Journeys across Spain series which I plan to make a staple in the channel alongside my reflections and general life abroad as an immigrant from the U.S.A.

A sneak peak is this weekend I am off to the region of Ronda, stay tuned for that video.

The World Cup Finals

This week I want to discuss what everyone in the world is focused on, the world cup. Boy, is it cool to live in Spain when they are heading to the finals. Their win against France was widely celebrated, the streets of Malaga errupted with celebrations that stretched into the early morning.

Now, Spain heads to the finals and they are up against Argentina. This should be a match for the history books and win or lose the energy in Spain is electric. Whether your Spanish or no, everyone is coming together to cheer Spain on (minus the Argentinians).

I find myself very lucky to be in Malaga, first for their promotion to La Liga, but Spain's progress to the finals of the world cup. I think this energy will only be topped in 4 years from now when the world cup is hosted here in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

Next week I'll have an update on the mood and energy in the city, but I hope that I get to write about Spain's victory.

Sabor De España

So I haven't had much in the way of Spanish food recently, but I did go somewhere cool. Recently, I have been craving Japanese food most likely due to my anticipation of my upcoming trip to Japan. So I found this shop that serve the fluffy and delicious Japanese style sandwiches served on fluffy sweet break with delicious filling.

I got their simple egg and bacon sandwich with spicy soft and it did not disappoint. They also have tonkatsu and other pork dishes and curry which I am eager to go try out. The name of the Place is Fu-Toki and is worth a visit, seriously please go visit, I'm not sure how more people don't go visit and eat there.

Coming Soon!

As I hinted I have a trip to Ronda planned and am excited for it assuming I can stay cool. A few other trips I have are back along the C1 line in Costa Del Sol, those are planned for the end of July. Also, it is crazy to think but it's almost been 1 year since I moved to Spain....

Thanks for reading this weeks edition. See you next week
